I have had dogs my entire life and have been exposed to several different training methods during that time.

Nearly 20 years ago I was exposed to “Traditional” correction based methods and in short time I knew that this wasn’t for my dog and this wasn’t for me. The punishment made him shut down and it did not solve any behavioral issues and compromised his trust in me in the process.

Many years later I was exposed to "Positive," clicker based methods. I had recently rescued a wonderful big dog whose only fault was that she didn’t know what we wanted from her. She had no training and was about a year old. “Traditional” methods would have broken her wonderful spirit and I wanted to communicate with her in a positive manner. Thus began my foray into clicker training (thank you Grisha at Ahimsa) and I now have not only a wonderful, loving dog, but one who knows what is expected of her. She is a Canine Good Citizen and a treasured member of our family.

I want to help other dogs and other families to bridge the communication gap and build healthy relationships so more dogs who just don’t know what is expected can become part of the family rather than part of an ever growing shelter population.
